“No profound and popular movement in all history has taken place without its share of filth, without adventurers and rogues, without boastful and noisy elements ruling party inevitably attacks careerists” this is a quote from Vladimir Lenin and I’m borrowing it to illustrate the extent of corrupt elements in the NRM.
The reason why I use the quote above is that it’s the best thing from a communist which would bring about a conclusive meaning to the state of affairs in the ruling NRM.
Some time back in this very blog I wrote about the need for the ruling movement to combat liberalism which was eating up all its leadership structures from the village level to the national and just few months away from the NSSF saga has exposed all elements in the movement as illustrated by Vladimir Lenin
The NRM cadres have been found to be out of line on two issues that have rocked the country recently one being the arrest of the Buganda Kingdom minister and now the new hot seat candidate is the general secretary said to have sold his land over and above the normal price which any human being would have done give the chance but since during their policy meetings NRM delegates do more of city touring than engage in real policy issues separation of power between the executive and their party leadership did not come to any conclusive meaning finding themselves with a jack of all traders as the general secretary, an MP, minister of defense and a business man who in many cases sounds like he is beyond reproach
The comments made by the chairman to Members of his movement that he will fight rebel members after the parliament was forced into a special session during the saga when Buganda cabinet ministers where arrested show how much gap is between the Executive of the movement and its ordinary party card carrying members and the chairman would know better that the liberal conditions created by him would encourage cadres of the movement advance their personal ambition rather than party and if I was a senior member of the movement I would be worried by such comments because that’s how USSR was disintegrated by just one word from then leader of the ruling party
The NRM has had to win many battles from the old bush war to changing the constitution thou the changes damaged many people along the line but the NRM won the fight this has always been achievable as a collective, but the NSSF issue that involves the general secretary seems like the moment people have been waiting for, true they might survive as a party the will wait as it will be reflected in the general elections but individuals are going to pay the price and how much price is one willing to pay for his or her party where individual merit counts is another days talk
But for the party to gain urban confidence which is elusive to them should quickly move to
Have the general secretary removed this is not to pre-empty the on going parliamentary processes but to ensure that some one take over as the new acting general secretary on full time basis and can effectively unite members of the movement
This will be an effective signal that the ruling party is ready to fight corrupt elements even with in their ranks and would send clear signals that its time to do what the book of Luke:12:8 says “To whom much is given Much is expected” they always claim receiving majority votes the people’s expectation is much service delivery of basic services.
